It’s a wrap

The 68th annual Destin Fishing Rodeo is in the books. The Lady Em, as usual, was the last boat of the day. 1,314 fish were weighed in for the month-long tournament. The last day saw several fish find first place spots on the board. For a full report checkout the Destin Log on Wednesday. Don’t forget the awards ceremony is Friday at AJ’s at 5 pm downstairs.

A wahoo tale of a tail

Capt. John Tenore (JT) and his crew came in late Tuesday evening with a whopper of a wahoo. The wahoo pulled in by Matt Johnson of Fort Walton Beach weighed in at 56.4 pounds and took over first place on the leaderboard in the U-25 charter boat category. Sheepshead is on the board

After 16 days of rodeo fishing, we finally weighed in a sheepshead on Day 17 at the rodeo. Kermit Miller of Valparaiso weighed in a 4.6-pounder to get on the board in the Pier, Bridge, Jetty and Surf division. Miller said he’s been trying to catch one for days, and finally got one to bite on a fiddler crab.

On the daily board so far – Day 12

We’ve already has some pretty good fish weighed in today at the Destin Fishing Rodeo. In the “big boat” division or Over 25-foot boat division – Anthony Holloway on the Phoenix with Capt. Scott Robson weighed in a 23.6-pound blackfin tuna. Edgar Smith on the Stelluna pulled in a 10-pound king mackerel. Leading wahoo is a 33.8-pounder caught by Aiden Moore on the Tropical Winds – he’s a junior angler – so it’s the largest by a junior as well.… Read More »

Wahoo and more wahoo

The First Light came in with a 28.8-pound wahoo caught by Mitchell Potts. He was knocked off the daily board just seconds later by a 29.2-pounder caught by Paul Wolfe on the Big John. One thing is for sure in rodeo fishing-it’s always changing. –Tina Harbuck
